Birdwatching Experience (4 Days / 3 Nights)

Fresh Water at Muyuna Lodge (4 Days)

Muyuna Lodge was designed and built by people from the native community of San Juan de Yanayacu keeping strict relation to the architecture. Since the level of the Amazon and its tributaries can vary a few feet, is constructed on stilts.

Muyuna is located in the Yanayacu river banks, up the Amazon River, at southeast from Iquitos City, very close to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Thanks to the remoteness of the lodge, in Muyuna we guarantee observation of birds, monkeys, sloth, dolphins, fish, caimans, butterflies, etc. in their natural habitat.

The Peruvian Amazon supports over 2,000 species of birds, excluding the 250 or so aquatic species. This amount is almost a quarter of the world’s total (500 species in Europe, and 700 in North America). Although this is a great number, it increases seasonally with migrants birds from Patagonia or North America. This is why in Muyuna Lodge we thought it was necessary to give the importance it deserves, with a special program through which you can watch birds and learn their customs, told by expert guides in the area. Birds lovers will not find another paradise in the whole world like this one.

Near Muyuna Lodge, you can see the Hyacinth Macaw (Ara hyacinthus), that uses its powerful curved bill to break hard nuts and seeds. It is the finest and rarest specie of the parrot family. Macaws are widely distributed and, fortunately, still quite common. Our guides will help you to identify the different species by their coloring.
