Explorama Lodge originally built in 1964 and located in an extensive Primary Rainforest Reserve 80 Km / 50 mi down the Amazon River from Iquitos City.

The 40 typical palm-thatched jungle lodge rooms now have private bathroom facilities! But don't worry, the Lodge has maintained its romantic atmosphere with kerosene lamps and torches for lighting, mosquito-netted beds, and covered walkways to the Tahuampa Bar and Hammock House where you can relax surrounded by a myriad of rainforest sounds.

The Canopy Walkway is an experience unequaled in the Amazon rainforest. At a height of over 35 meters and extending for 500 meters. Walking in the jungle, bird watching, make contact with Yagua natives.

Itinerary - Explorama Lodge and Canopy Walkway Special (5 Days / 4 Nights)

Day 1: ... (Lima) / Iquitos / Explorama Lodge (L-D)

Reception at the airport in Iquitos City
Brief orientation of the city dock.
Travel 80 Km. the Amazon River from Iquitos.
Reception at Explorama Lodge .
Lunch.

Afternoon hike along the "Lake Trail" through lowland rainforest which at the time of growing is covered by water is seasonal and during this excursion is done by open boat.
Dinner.
In the night walk or open to enjoy the sounds of the rainforest and stars of the Southern sky.
Overnight at Explorama Lodge

Day 2: Explorama Lodge (B-L-D)

Early morning birding excursion. Morning walk along the "Bushmaster Trail", where scientific studies by the Missouri Botanical Gardens have found the world's highest biodiversity of trees per square hectare.
Breakfast.
Continue on to a small village of Yagua natives where your guide will explain their culture and how it has been affected by the passing of time. There will be an opportunity to see their local crafts and for a demonstration of the use of the blowgun which some of the Yagua elders still use.
Lunch
Afternoon boating excursion in search of sloth, found in Cecropia trees at the water's edge, and the two species of freshwater river dolphin, pink and grey, found in Amazonian waters.
Dinner.
Overnight at Explorama Lodge

Day 3: Explorama Lodge / Canopy Walkway / Explorama Lodge (B-L-D)

Early morning departure from the lodge by boat to the mouth of the Napo River where in 1542, the intrepid explorer Francisco de Orellana, became the first European to discover the Amazon River.
Continue on the Napo River to ExplorNapo Lodge for breakfast. Hike to the spectacular Canopy Walkway spanning over 500 meters (one-third of a mile), connected by tree platforms, and reaching a height of over 35 meters (115 feet) but accessible without any type of climbing skill or equipment.
Lunch.
After lunch, visit the "ReNuPeRu" Ethnobotanical Garden where over 240 medicinal plants are cultivated by a local shaman who will explain the nature of Amazonian natural healing and the uses of some of the plants.
Return to Explorama Lodge in time to relax in the hammock house or at the Tahuampa bar before dinner.
Dinner and overnight at Explorama Lodge.

Day 4: Explorama Lodge / Ceiba Tops / Explorama Lodge (B-L-D)

Early morning birding.
Breakfast.
Morning boat excursion to "Monkey Island", a private reserve where more than five species of tropical primates including small tamarins, saki, titi and large woolly monkeys are protected.
Lunch will be served at Ceiba Tops lodge.
Afternoon hike in the beautiful primary rainforest reserve surrounding Ceiba Tops that includes many huge trees festooned with epiphytes or, if you prefer, time to enjoy the pool, water slide, Jacuzzi and lovely gardens around Ceiba Tops.
Return to Explorama Lodge in time to once again enjoy the hammock house or Tahuampa bar.
Dinner and overnight at Explorama Lodge.

Day 5: Explorama Lodge / Iquitos / ... (Lima) (B)

Breakfast.
Morning walk along a local Amazon River trail stopping at a "ribereños" house, corner store and sugar cane rum factory.
Lunch. (if departure flight permits)
Return to Iquitos City.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima.

Recommendations:

Arrival in Iquitos has to be before 9:00 am and departure after 5:00 pm. Other schedules has to arrange extra boat with additional cost.

Bring:

Insect repellent
Good walking shoes that cover the heals. (to avoid twisting your ankle)
Large sun hat.
Sunglasses.
Sun cream.
Camera with plenty of film and batteries.
Flashlight / torch to use at nighttime. (plus spare batteries)
Lightweight raincoat with rainproof hat.
Umbrella in case of rain.
A good book to read, plenty of magazines. (to ready while you relax)
Pair of binoculars.
Water flask. (fresh drinking water for jungle treks)
Swimming costume. (for swimming in our large pool or in the river)
The native Indian tribes in the area are very poor and love to receive gifts of used clothing, old toys or anything at all that the tourist does not need and wishes to donate. Also, any items for children such as paper, pencils and pens are very gratefully received.
(For couples) Bring protection. (there are no drugstore nearby!!)
