Explorama Lodge originally built in 1964 and located in an extensive Primary Rainforest Reserve 80 Km / 50 mi down the Amazon River from Iquitos City.

The 40 typical palm-thatched jungle lodge rooms now have private bathroom facilities! But don't worry, the Lodge has maintained its romantic atmosphere with kerosene lamps and torches for lighting, mosquito-netted beds, and covered walkways to the Tahuampa Bar and Hammock House where you can relax surrounded by a myriad of rainforest sounds.

Explorama Lodge offers a variety of adventures including the Seven Bridges Trail walk and a special full day excursion to the Canopy Walkway can be added for those staying two or more nights.

Itinerary - Explorama Lodge (3 Days / 2 Nights)

Day 1: ... (Lima) / Iquitos / Explorama Lodge (L-D)

Reception at the airport in Iquitos City
Brief orientation of the city dock.
Travel 80 kms. the Amazon River from Iquitos.
Reception at Explorama Lodge.
Lunch.

Afternoon hike along the "Lake Trail" through lowland rainforest which at the time of growing is covered by water is seasonal and during this excursion is done by open boat.
Dinner.
In the night walk or open to enjoy the sounds of the rainforest and stars of the Southern sky.

Day 2: Explorama Lodge (B-L-D)

Breakfast.
In the morning, walk along the "Bushmaster Trail", where scientific studies by the Missouri Botanical Gardens have found the world's highest biodiversity of trees per square hectare.Your guide will point out some of the medicinal plants used today and others may use in the future.
Lunch.
Afternoon ride opened along the Amazon River to watch the two species of freshwater dolphins boat, and a chance to swim.

Day 3: Explorama Lodge / Iquitos / ... (Lima) (B)

Breakfast.
By morning walk along a local trail to visit one of the villages "riparian" or people from the bank, visit your school, factory cachaça or maybe visit our resident American medical doctor in his clinic which is sponsored by the Rotary Club.
Lunch. (if departure flight permits)
Return to Iquitos City.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima.

Recommendations:

Arrival in Iquitos has to be before 9:00 am and departure after 5:00 pm. Other schedules has to arrange extra boat with additional cost.

Bring:

Insect repellent
Good walking shoes that cover the heals. (to avoid twisting your ankle)
Large sun hat.
Sunglasses.
Sun cream.
Camera with plenty of film and batteries.
Flashlight / torch to use at nighttime. (plus spare batteries)
Lightweight raincoat with rainproof hat.
Umbrella in case of rain.
A good book to read, plenty of magazines. (to ready while you relax)
Pair of binoculars.
Water flask. (fresh drinking water for jungle treks)
Swimming costume. (for swimming in our large pool or in the river)
The native Indian tribes in the area are very poor and love to receive gifts of used clothing, old toys or anything at all that the tourist does not need and wishes to donate. Also, any items for children such as paper, pencils and pens are very gratefully received.
(For couples) Bring protection. (there are no drugstore nearby!!)
