How to travel to Tumbes
Tumbes City is located at northwestern coast, 789 miles (1,270 Km) from Lima.
Tumbes city and Northern Beaches are easily accessible by air; commercial flights leave daily from Lima, alternatively flights to Piura and Talara, or bus transportation from Lima and the main cities of north of Peru. By road through Pan-American Highway from northern cities of Peru or from Guayaquil and Ecuadorian cities.
For reference, Punta Sal Beach is located 80 Km / 50 miles southwest of the Tumbes city (1 hour and 15 minutes by bus) and only 23 Km north of Máncora (20 minutes by car). Máncora is located 187 Km from the city of Piura, and 98 Km. from Tumbes city. (See: Map of Tumbes)

Flights from Lima to Tumbes
If you have only a short time for visit Tumbes and / or northern beaches, the best way to travel is by air from Lima (1h 50'), commercial flights leave daily from Lima to Tumbes.
Tumbes City counts with a small and comfortable airport Capitán FAP Pedro Canga Rodríguez (TBP Airport code); located 8.5 Km outside the town; it only attends domestic flights and regional flights from Ecuador. Punta Sal is located 80 Km. south from Tumbes. Máncora is located 98 Km. south from Tumbes.
Alternatively there are as many daily flights from Lima to Piura (1h 30'), or Lima to Talara (1h 45'), and then can travel by road to the beaches or to Tumbes city.
Flights from Lima to Talara
The airport Capitán FAP Víctor Montes Arias (TYL airport code) is located in Talara city, commercial flights leave daily from Lima to Talara 1h 45´, is the second best option to travel to northern beaches. Máncora is located 81 Km. north from Talara. Punta Sal is located 104 Km. north from Talara.
Flights from Lima to Piura
The airport Capitán FAP Guillermo Concha Iberico (PIU airport code) is located in Piura city, commercial flights leave daily from Lima to Piura, has more frequencies and more airlines companies. Flights from Lima 1h 30'. In Piura there are many options for terrestrial transportation to northern beaches, like taxis, mini vans or buses. Máncora is located 178 Km. north from Piura. Punta Sal is located 201 Km. north from Talara.
Máncora and Punta Sal are more accessible with flights to Tumbes or Talara.
Terrestrial Way - By Bus
Tumbes City is connected with cities on the coast by the Pan-American Highway (1A), also recommendable a bus trip (21 h from Lima).
From Ecuador, road through the North Pan-American Highway (1A) entering to Tumbes by Aguas Verdes - Huaquillas.
Regular bus services leave daily from Lima or Piura to Tumbes city and Máncora. Also services of tourist minivan, or private taxis, from Piura to Northern Beaches.
Many of the beachfront hotels have private transportation from the airport, or bus station, to the hotel (Tumbes or Piura).
